Is it typical for legeitimate jewelry store to ask for your ID even when you purchase an item in cash?
I bought something from a jewelry store in a mall (not one of those places in wheelies and stuff; actual store) and the person asked me if I can show him my ID so he can have my name in the system. I willingly gave it to him and on the way home, I didn't feel good about it... Am I just paranoid or do some jewelry stores do this? Please help

- They certainly can ask and you certainly can refuse to supply them with it.
- They just want to send you ads. They can ask, you can say no. They have no reason to refuse to sell to you if you don't provide ID. I had the same thing happen to me years ago. It was in a mall and an upscale jewelry store. I gave them the info. Today, I'd just politely say no.
